Jon Eric Hightshoe, 57, of Creston, was taken into custody 12:30 a.m. Aug. 4 on the charges of OWI first offense and possession of a controlled substance - marijuana, first offense.

According to a Creston Police report, officers observed a vehicle stopped at the intersection of Cedar and Howard streets with its turn signal activated, blocking the opposite lane. After waiting for the vehicle to turn east on Howard, officers got behind it and observed the vehicle drive in the oncoming lane. A traffic stop was initiated at Grand and Howard streets. While speaking with the driver, later identified as Hightshoe, an open container in the center console and a strong odor of alcoholic beverage coming from Hightshoe was observed. He had bloodshot watery eyes and slurred speech.

Hightshoe was directed to exit his vehicle and walk to the patrol unit to sit in the passenger seat to talk. While speaking to officers, Hightshoe stated he had had too much to drink. He was asked to do field sobriety tests and told officers that those could be skipped as he would not pass them and said he would just do breath testing. Officers told Hightshoe that each test would be explained and then a breath test could be done, Hightshoe then agreed to testing. Officers noted several clues of impairment eventually stopped testing due to safety concerns. A PBT test was administered providing a result of .183% BrAC. When Hightshoe was placed in handcuffs, he stated he had marijuana in his pocket. A blunt and a bag of marijuana were found. After being transported to the Union County Law Enforcement Center, Hightshoe consented to provide a breath specimen for testing in the DataMaster that provided a test result of .18% BrAC.

Hightshoe was transported to the Union County Jail and held on $2,000 cash or surety bond.

Douglas Edward Woodward, 36, of Creston, was taken into custody 11:13 p.m. Aug. 3 near the intersection of Prairie and Lincoln streets on the charge of driving while barred.

According to a Creston Police report, Woodward was observed by officers at the intersection of North Lincoln and Prairie streets. Woodward is known by officers to have a barred license. A traffic stop was initiated and contact was made with the driver, confirmed to be Woodward. Officers confirmed his license status was barred. Woodward was the only occupant of the vehicle.

Woodward was transported to the Union County Jail where he was released from after posting $2,000 cash or surety bond.

Heather Green, 36, of Creston, was taken into custody 2:55 p.m. Aug. 3 on Livingston Avenue for the charge of driving while under suspension.

According to a Creston Police report, a white 2010 BMW was stopped by officers on Livingston Avenue. Green was the driver of the vehicle and has a license status in Iowa of suspended.

Green was cited and released from the scene on a summons to appear.
