David Robbins Jr., 32, of Newell, was taken into custody July 20 on two Union County warrants. The first charges Robbins with robbery, second degree; theft, second degree; operation without owner’s consent and assault causing bodily injury. The second warrant charge is theft, fifth degree.
According to a Creston Police report, at approximately 10 a.m. Oct. 28, 2021, near Irving and Poplar streets, Robbins is accused of stealing a 2014 Ford Focus, knowing that the person normally in possession of the vehicle was dragged by holding onto the door handle of the vehicle at the time. The victim required medical treatment for visible injuries to knees and elbows. Robbins stole the vehicle from the registered owners granddaughter and drove it without registered owners consent. The vehicle, which has an estimated value of $9,500, was reported as stolen to law enforcement. A pet Chihuahua belonging to the victim, valued at $300, was taken in the vehicle. Robbins identification was found in the vehicle when it was recovered.
Robbins is being held in the Union County Jail on $18,300 cash or surety bond.
