Cassi M. Bird, 33, of Des Moines, was taken into custody 11:45 a.m. June 24 on the 800 block of Laurel Street for two outside county warrants. The first warrant, issued by Des Moines Police Department for the charge of domestic abuse assault. The second warrant from Polk County charges Bird with violation of parole.

According to a Polk County District court report, on Sept. 30, 2021, while on parole, Bird tested positive and admitted to use of methamphetamine and alcohol. On June 22, a criminal complaint was filed by Polk County charging Bird with domestic abuse assault for an incident that was reported to have taken place on June 17. Bird reportedly bit her partner’s face during that altercation.

She was transported to the Adams County Jail and held without bond, awaiting transfer to Polk County.

Cody I. Corfits, 24, of West Des Moines, was taken into custody 10:06 a.m. June 25 on a Union County warrant for the charge of violation of probation on the original charge of domestic assault, first offense.

According to a Judicial District Department of Correctional Services report, On April 12, Corfits was granted a deferred judgment with one year probation in Union County for domestic abuse assault. Included in the judgement was the condition of complying with a protective order that was put in place due to the incident. On May 16, Corfits was arrested in Union County and charged with kidnapping, third degree; child endangerment, bodily injury, domestic abuse assault and violation of a no contact order. The victim involved in these alleged offenses is the same victim as his currently supervised case.

Corfits was transported to the Union County Jail and held on $600 cash or surety bond.
