Break in suspect faces charges

An Omaha, Nebraska, man who was shot breaking into a home outside of Casey June 9 was released from a Des Moines hospital Monday and faced several charges.

According to the Adair County Sheriff’s Office, Luis Penaloza Garcia, 25, was charged with second-degree burglary, first-degree theft, second-degree theft and fourth-degree criminal mischief.

Garcia is suspected of having a stolen car found June 9 in the Interstate 80 median near Adair and a break-in at a home southwest of Casey. Garcia is being held in the Adair County Jail and is awaiting initial appearance before the Adair County Magistrate. Bond for all charges is $70,000 cash only.
