No citations were issued after an accident 5:43 a.m. Sunday on U.S. Highway 34.

According to a Union County Sheriff’s report, deputies responded to a vehicle in a corn field next to Highway 34. The vehicle was a 2008 Mercedes that belonged to Gregorio Castro, of Council Bluffs, but no one was in the vehicle. Castro may have been traveling eastbound on Highway 34 and did not make the curve, went in the ditch, hit an embankment, jumped the fence and landed in a cornfield.

Estimated damage to Castro’s vehicle was $5,000.

No citations were issued after an accident 9:11 p.m. Friday on U.S. Highway 34.

According to a Union County Sheriff’s report, deputies responded to a vehicle in the ditch. The deputies spoke to the driver, Michael Joseph Esslinger, of Creston driving a 2005 Ford, who said he lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle broke a fence facing south and no injuries were reported. F&M Body Shop towed Esslinger’s Ford out of the ditch.

Estimated damage to Esslinger’s vehicle was $2,000. Estimated damage to the fence was $300.
