John Lyle VanScoy, 35, of Afton was charged on a Union County warrant for driving while barred and eluding 2:11 a.m. Jan. 21.

According to a Creston Police report, 11:40 a.m. Dec. 28 VanScoy was seen driving at North Cherry and Carpenter streets. Officers knew VanScoy had a barred license and multiple warrants. Vanscoy ignored the patrol vehicle’s lights and sirens. When VanScoy continued to elude and go 80 mph in a 55 zone, officers terminated the chase.

VanScoy was transferred to the custody of Union County and then released on $29,000 bond.

Andrew Virgil Martin, 30, of Fontanelle was charged with first-offense operating while impaired 10:02 p.m. Jan. 22 in Greenfield.

According to an Adair County Sheriff’s report, deputies stopped Martin for speeding and not staying in his lane. Martin admitted to drinking alcohol and failed standard field sobriety testing. A preliminary breath test showed Martin’s blood alcohol to be over .08. A data master test at the Adair County Jail registered his blood alcohol at .112.

Martin was released on his promise to appear.

Vincent Edward Long, 31, of Stuart was charged with child endangerment — serious injury and assault causing bodily injury 11:35 p.m. Jan. 22 in Stuart.

According to a Stuart Police report, officers were contacted by Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office regarding a complaint of possible child abuse reported by Omaha Children’s Hospital. A hospital representative stated a 6-year-old male was brought in with bruising on his arm with an outline of a handprint. The victim’s mother stated she picked him up from Long Jan. 8 and noticed the bruises. The victim’s statement about the bruise was inconsistent. During a forensic interview conducted Jan. 12 by the Star Center in Des Moines the victim said Long got mad at him, stood up and grabbed his arm. Pictures were taken of the bruising at that time.

Long was released on $5,000 bond.
