LETTER: The honorable walk of authority

Jeanne Jackson

Adams County

Chair Rob Tucker started with figures analyzing our petition from the Adams County Priceless Land Coalition. Our petition had about 945 constituents/landowners sign it. 2020 US Census states Adams County has a population of 3,704.

3,704 population X 21.3 % (18 years and under) = 789 kids.

3,704 – 789 = 2,915 adults.

We had about 945 people sign a petition (32 % of county signed a petition for a 2 year moratorium also explaining that we wanted a 3,281 feet setback from the property line). In Union County, they got 1,000 people to sign a petition also requesting a moratorium and they were impressed.

Wisdom here means we attack injustice. As the chair of the zoning commission, it is his responsibility to control a meeting with peace and order. On the zoning commission, one person has been belligerent, loud, intimidating and disrupting during the zoning meetings. The chair needs to be warning about no outburst or intimidating, or threatening people who don’t agree during a public meeting. Honorable authority would mean you would motion for the meeting to stop and continue at another time. This was not done.

As the chair of the zoning, you are responsible at every public meeting to have a microphone used so the public can clearly hear. One lady stood up and asked for a microphone so people could hear. Chair responded “just move up front.” It was clear this is not a public meeting when the public cannot hear. This is wrong.

We have always believed for the best for Adams County residents. Does the process of government uphold integrity when neither of these were taken care of? In fact, why would you even try to call it a public meeting when no one can speak. One meeting ago, it was clearly from the property line and the next that is gone. Is this a just and righteous government?

It is a privilege to set on a zoning board and to establish a righteous and just ordinance that works for the health, welfare and safety of Adams County residents (not to force people who don’t want turbines to have their freedom stomped on). A public official should never use their authority for personal gain.

Wisdom creates authority to flow correctly. Wisdom should be attacking injustices. To make a difference in Adams County, we want to build up that which has been broken and make a difference for our whole county and future generations. Your job is not to bring in finances, it is to make a fair and just ordinance for those who don’t want to participate with turbines. This is why if you do something wrong to misuse authority for selfish reasons, you need to resign from the zoning commission (or any position of authority). Reality is many, many people have made it clear we have had enough. Make your choice. Money won’t fix the problem, but integrity will always keep you right before the Lord for what you did or for what you stood for.
