I would like to address the issue of wind turbines in Union County.
Our board of supervisors have been debating the distance for setbacks of wind turbines in Union County for several months now. I find it appalling that these discussions are even taking place.
It appears to me that the only people who are benefiting from these turbines are the rural property owners who are allowing them to be put on their property without regard for their neighbors. They are paid thousands of dollars per year to have them, so it is understandable that they have buckled under pressure from these wind turbine companies and now have thousands of dollars in their pockets. In no way has it been a benefit to myself or the other thousands of people in Union County. If so, I’d like to hear from you.
I personally would not inflict this on any of my neighbors, even for a price, but money talks.
Discussion on setbacks is not the issue for me. The issue is the constant flashing of red lights at night. In the evening from our backyard we can see the many, many, many turbines flashing their annoying blinking lights across the northern sky from 20 miles away. This is talking miles, not yards of setbacks, the supervisors are discussing. I would hope that the supervisors, people of Union County and surrounding counties do not buckle under the pressure to allow additional wind turbines to be constructed in our beautiful rural areas. Just say no.
