LETTER: Turbines ruin land

submitted by Darlene Loudon of Creston

In reading Chad Ide’s letter to the editor Tuesday, Feb. 7, I would like to commend him for doing his homework on the “Rest of the Story” article. That article should have opened up some eyes about the wind turbine subject.

I know I would not want to work with “Mr. Meyer” from the LS2 Group. It seems he couldn’t answer the questions when asked.

I would never allow a wind turbine on my farmland. Years ago, someone told me I want the turbines on my property so I can sit in my rocking chair and wait for the checks to come in. At night when we turn off to come to Creston for those 16 miles, those blinking red lights are a distraction to drivers. Then, in the daytime. if the sun is just right, the blades turning create a dark shadow on the pavement.

Roger Lanning, chairman of the Southwest Iowa Hot Air Balloon Days, is concerned how the wind farm could effect the annual event. That concerns us all. We have had that event now for years and people love it. We don’t need a group to ruin it, because they want to mess up the land.

I think the wind turbines are “ugly” and can be a bit dangerous. My opinion is they have ruined the countryside and we are known for our beautiful farms and our farmland.
