LETTER: Things have changed radically

From Gordon Crawford, Creston

I feel like Rip Van Winkle waking up from a 20 year sleep, right after an election as the story goes, and discovering that things have changed very radically.

In this “new world” that I find myself in, common words and phrases have taken on new meaning. History is being rewritten, memorials are being torn down, police are being attacked without consequence, riots are being called “mostly peaceful demonstrations,” crime and violence is rampant in cities across the nation, criminals are being released from prison early, illegal aliens are rewarded with benefits and protection, and somehow the Civil Rights Movement has been turned upside down.

I was taught as a child not to judge a book by its cover and I remember Martin Luther King saying he had a dream “that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character”.

Today, children across the nation are being taught just the opposite in a curriculum called “Critical Race Theory,”a.k.a. CRT. If you are white, you must apologize for your “white privilege” and accept that you are a “white supremacist.” A basic premise being taught is that our country was founded on slavery and is “systemically racist,” despite that we fought a civil war to eliminate it. The curriculum supports the Marxist BLM organization and the Black Lives Matter movement in general which preaches that only black lives matter. If you disagree and say that ALL lives matter, you’re attacked as a racist!

President Biden has purposely chosen his cabinet members and other appointees based all or partially on the color or their skin, ethnicity, so-called gender identity, sexual preference, and/or belief systems, seemingly with little consideration of qualifications for the job. Unfortunately for us, the incompetence of many of his choices is beginning to have an impact on our daily lives.

VP Kamala Harris is now proving this out, too, since even some of her strongest supporters are calling her out for her poor performance (or LACK of performance). Keep in mind that in her run for president, SHE DIDN’T GET ONE VOTE! Her campaign flopped and she dropped out before the Iowa caucus. So why in the world did Biden choose a woman who was so unpopular that she couldn’t fund her campaign and had to drop out of the race before it really got started to be his running mate?

If I wake up again in 2022 after the mid-term elections, I hope this nightmare will be over and the people have put traditional values and common sense back into their choice of who they voted for.
