The real cost of open borders (part 2)

“In questions of power, then, let no more be heard of confidence in man, but bind him down from mischief by the chains of the Constitution.” Thomas Jefferson (1798)

Jefferson was very clear. Jefferson knew that we can never rely on individual men to voluntarily do what is right for the nation. Jefferson knew that we must have a Constitution that very clearly sets forth limits on how much the government can control the individual. The law must restrict men from harming others.

I chanced upon a podcast the other day in which Elon Musk was being interviewed. Yes, that Elon Musk, reputed to be the richest man in the world, owner of X (formerly Twitter), Space X, Tessla and many other assets.

Born in South Africa, Elon’s father was a South African citizen and his mother was a Canadian citizen. In 2002 Elon renounced his South African citizenship and became a naturalized citizen of the United States of America.

Elon was being interviewed about the border crisis we are experiencing in the United States of America (formerly a nation with laws and rules about immigration that were both reasonable and enforced.)

Elon raised the issue about representation in Congress and how the vast wave of illegal immigrants has the probability of changing how the seats in the United States of America House of Representatives are allocated to the various states.

In the year 1929 the Congress decided to cap the number of U.S. Representatives to Congress at 435. It has remained 435 since. After each census the number of representatives allocated to each state is recalculated. Each state is allocated at least one congressional seat, no matter how small the population. Following the 2020 census there are now seven states with only one congressional representative. The largest delegations are now California, 52; Texas, 38; Florida, 28 and New York, 26. No other state had as many as 20 representatives. Each congressional seat now represents an average of 761,952 people. The original number in the Constitution was “no more than 30,000″ for any Congressman.

Congressional seats are based on total population, not on total citizens. In the last three years, over 10 million illegal, undocumented immigrants have entered the United States. Every one of these immigrants will be counted in the next census. Most will not have become citizens by the year 2030 when the next census occurs. If this rate of illegal immigration continues, an additional 20 to 30 million people will be added to our total population by this means alone before the next census. The 2030 Census will possibly be increased by 10 % of our current population. The presence of these millions of undocumented immigrants will have significant impact on the redistricting of the Congress at that time. I can see where Iowa could lose one of our seats in the House of Representatives.

In 1929, Iowa had a total of 11 seats in the U.S. House of Representatives. We have lost one or two congressional seats following each Census since then. We now have only four seats in the House of Representatives.

With concentrations of illegal immigrants going to a few states such as: California, Illinois, New York and Minnesota, all of which vote predominately Democrat, our current president no doubt sees this as a long-term benefit for the Democrat Party – even if very few of the immigrants ever become citizens who can legally vote. The demographics of the vast numbers being concentrated in a few states will possibly change the political balance in Congress. If some of these, or other, states have an increase of Congressional seats, Iowa’s delegation could very easily be reduced to only three seats.

Since the 1930′s the Chinese Communist Party has been engaged in a “long march” to control the nation of China. Similarly, ever since Woodrow Wilson, we have seen a similar “long march” in the United States by the political left. This has been a multi-pronged plan to take control of the United States. Starting with the Leviathan Administrative State, the left has gone on to control higher education, our local education and even our churches. Every one of these institutions has become more and more liberal with each passing generation.
