By Executive Director Ellen Gerharz, Creston Chamber of Commerce

The month of June is the kick-off to a very busy summer in Creston – which is wonderful. The following is a partial list of some of the events that will be happening in our great community this month.

On the morning of June 5, the ever-popular KSIB Tractor Ride will kick-off the event in Uptown Creston. On June 12, the Creston Citywide Garage Sale will take place from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. The Southside Boosters will again be holding their Old-Fashioned Homemade Ice Cream Social and Fundraiser at Rainbow Park from 1 to 4:30 p.m. June 19. Later that evening, the gates at McKinley Park will open at 6 p.m. with the Creston Park and Recreation’s Party in the Park, with music starting at 7 p.m. The Annual Elm’s Club Bike Night will take place on June 26.

In addition to all of these activities in June, the Creston Farmers Market will open for the season from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Monday, June 7 at McKinley Park and will continue being open Mondays through Sept. 27. You can also visit the Union County Historical Village, located in McKinley Park on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The village is open through Labor Day, 1 to 4:30 p.m.

Also in June, the chamber will begin honoring yards/homes in Creston. During June, July, August, September and October, three houses will be honored each month, weather permitting. Please nominate a yard to be considered by the committee by contacting the chamber with the address or the location. Each home selected will receive a gift from either Creston Super Walmart, Green Valley Pest Control & Lawn Care and the chamber.

Celebrate 4th of July with the 10,000 Crestonians

I know that it is still early in June, but the 10,000 Crestonians are busy making plans for the upcoming celebration.

The theme for this year’s parade and celebration is entitled “Star Spangled Salute,” The parade will begin at 1 p.m. July 4. If you would like to be in the parade, please call the chamber office at 641-782-7021, email or text us to sign up if you wish to be judged, or if not, please come to the parking lot at Creston Livestock Auction to be included in the parade.

I would also like to pass along that if you know of a child who would like to decorate their bike and be in the bicycle division of the parade, there is a chance for them to win a bicycle and helmet. There is also the annual talent show at McKinley Park, also on the 4th. Please get signed up to entertain your friends and family.

If you would like to make a donation to the 10,000 Crestonians, you can drop it off at the chamber office located at 208 W. Taylor St. or mail it to the 10,000 Crestonians at P.O. Box 471, Creston, IA, 50801.
