Pastor Delores Doench, 77, of Cromwell, died March 25, 2026, at her home in Cromwell. Services have yet to be determined. Burial will be at a later date. Powers Funeral Home in Creston is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be made at www.powersfh.com.
Delores Louise Doench was born March 8, 1949, in Cincinnati, Ohio to Edward Roland Doench and Lillian Mae (Bierman) Doench. She graduated from Anderson High School in 1967 in Cincinnati and later completed seminary at Andover Newton Seminary in New Haven, Connecticut, and received her Doctor of Divinity at Yale Divinity School. She lived in upstate New York, Wyoming and El Paso, Texas, before moving to the Creston area. Delores was a Captain in the U.S. Army and served as a U.S. Army Chaplain for 3 years. After moving to the Creston area, Delores served at several churches, such as St. John’s United Church of Christ in Creston, Cromwell United Church of Christ and the Platte Center Presbyterian Church in Creston. Delores taught religion, sociology and science at SWCC from March 5, 1998, until 2015.
Delores was very involved with starting a transitional housing facility in the Lenox area under the renovation by the United Charitable Association, an interfaith organization, created by a partnership of local Presbyterian Churches, which exists to help individuals in need. She was also a member of the Union County Ministerial Alliance.
Delores was preceded in death by her parents and her older brother Edward Doench.
