Marilyn M. Fils, 90, of Indianola, formerly of Creston, died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2026.

Marilyn Mae Fils, 90, passed away peacefully Sunday, Feb. 1, 2026, at Westview Indianola Care Center, where she had resided for the past several years. Prior to moving to Indianola, she was a longtime resident of Creston.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11 a.m. March 7, at The First United Methodist Church in Creston. The family will greet friends one hour prior to services at the church.

Marilyn was born in 1935 in Creston and grew up on a farm near Zion with her parents, Irvin and Winnie Lauer, three brothers and a sister. Marilyn graduated from Zion High School in 1953. She met Richard Fils and they were married October 1955. They lived and worked on the family farm, established by his grandfather in 1880, northwest of Creston.

Marilyn and Richard retired to Creston in 2004, and continued farming until Richard’s passing in 2011. Quilting, gardening and traveling were Marilyn’s favorite passions, and she valued her lifelong friendships with many people in the community.

Marilyn is survived by her son Gary (Phanh) Fils of Brooklyn, Connecticut; daughter Carol (Ed) Hansen of Indianola; son Douglas (Linda) Fils of Slater; five grandchildren: Aaron (Jenny) Hansen, Kara Hansen, Matthew Fils, Khek (Thia) Keomanivong and Sam Champalath; many great-grandchildren and her brother David (Marj) Lauer of Lincoln, Nebraska.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband Richard Fils; parents, Irvin and Winnie Lauer and siblings: Rollin Lauer, Homer Lauer and Phyllis Brown.
