James “Jimmy” Curtis Abell was born Oct. 1, 1956, to Mary Lou (Berg) Abell and James Herbert Abell in Creston. He was educated in Creston schools. In his younger days, he enjoyed locksmithing, even earning a certificate. Jimmy would later find work at Crest Haven Care Center in the maintenance department, and he mowed for Graceland Cemetery near Creston.
For 11 years he moved to Colorado with his parents where he helped his dad with work and would cook for them often. Jimmy enjoyed cooking and experimenting with spices, which usually turned out to be good! He loved watching old movies like “Red Skelton” and enjoyed doing a lot of puzzles and word search books.
Jimmy enjoyed having pets, like many puppies and even a squirrel, and he would also spend time birdwatching, but most of all he loved his family and nephews.
Survivors include his mother Mary Lou Abell of Creston; two sisters, Kathleen Kay Abell of Lenox and Denise Lynn (Tom) Redding of Creston; two nephews, Eric (Tara) Herzberg of Grand River and Ryan (Kaleigh) Van Pelt of Nebraska City, Nebraska, along with two great-nephews, Cyrus Herzberg and Warrick Van Pelt.
He was preceded in death by his father James in 2019, his grandparents and a brother in infancy, Michael Duane Abell.
