Aaron Cunningham, 45, was born Oct. 21, 1980, in Creston. He passed away tragically Dec. 16, 2025. Aaron was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and friend whose life was defined by love, service and resilience.
Aaron was the beloved husband of 26 years to Carla Vining-Cunningham. He was a proud and loving father to five children: Alexis, Blake, Cealan, Donavan and Ellee. One of Aaron’s greatest joys was becoming a first-time grandfather to his precious granddaughter Anastasia Cunningham. He was a cherished son of Donna Moffitt/Cunningham and Richard Cunningham and a devoted son-in-law to Aubrey and Kim Vining. Aaron was a loving brother to Amy and Jesse Lane, Ann and Tim Gill, Randy and Babs Cunningham, Alex Cunningham, Salina and Josh Brown, Rick and Donna Vining and Jason and Krystyna Vining. He was also a proud uncle to many nieces and nephews who will miss him deeply.
Aaron proudly served his country as a decorated United States Army veteran, dedicating nearly 10 years of honorable service. He was a three-time Purple Heart recipient and received numerous commendations, including the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal (Second Award), Meritorious Unit Commendation (Second Award), Valorous Unit Award, Army Good Conduct Medal (Third Award), National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal and Global War on Terrorism Service Medal. His military service reflected extraordinary courage, sacrifice and commitment.
Following his service, Aaron earned a bachelor’s degree in cybersecurity. He enjoyed fishing, spending time outdoors and making memories with friends and family. Aaron was known for his humor, outgoing personality and kind heart. He was deeply loved and respected by all who knew him. Aaron lived a life of service — serving his country, protecting his family and standing by those he loved. We choose to honor his life, not the circumstances of his passing, and to remember the strength, loyalty and love he gave so freely.
