Roland Dean Waters, son of Margaret Waters, was born May 14, 1941, in Iowa City. He grew up with his three sisters, Arlene, Irene and Linda. He attended Murray schools in his youth. Besides a few odd jobs over the years, Rollie was a truck driver for over 50 years of his life. Over the years he memorized many major highways, road signs and mile markers. Some may have called him a “walking GPS,” as he could tell you how to get anywhere from anyplace in the country.

While trucking, he met Jacqueline Ann Hartman, a fellow truck driver and soon started their 25-year relationship. The two began driving truck together and enjoyed camping in their free time. The two later married in Creston. After retiring from driving truck, Rollie helped out Arnold Eblen on his farm north of Creston.

Surviving Rollie is his son Bill (Stephanie) Waters of Floresville, Texas; three sisters: Arlene (Bob) Mickles of West Des Moines, Irene (Dale) Dewey of Altoona and Linda Trenkle of Forsyth, Missouri; along with five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother Margaret Waters Culbertson; son Jeff Waters in 1985 and wife Jacqueline Waters in August 2025.
