Eleanor “Ellie” Maxine Moran, daughter of R.C. Barnes and Vera Louise (Tackett) Barnes, was born Jan. 24, 1941, near Gravity. Ellie was educated in Bedford country schools and Bedford High School. Ellie worked as a waitress in her earlier years.

Ellie’s life was anything but boring as her children were her life. She had nine children: Dennis, Kevin, Mark, Jeff, Ronnie, Robbie, Roger, Ricky and Shelly. She did the best she could with the knowledge she had at the time to keep her kids together and alive. She would say she didn’t do a very good job, but her kids would tell you differently.

In 1975, Ellie was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, and married Ron Moran. Later they had Ryan and that made them “THE 10.“ Ron also had three children from a previous marriage.

Orient is where the older kids would say they called home. Ellie, Ron and the three youngest children moved to Oklahoma for two years before returning to Creston in 1985. Ellie was always a homemaker, but after returning and settling, she took on other titles, working at SIRHA in the maintenance department for a brief time.

Later, she enjoyed working with Ron’s cleaning business and caring for the elderly in their final days. Ellie also was a very proud paraeducator in Creston. They raised the youngest, Ryan, here in Creston at the place that became HOME! In her free time, she enjoyed going for rides and traveling. Ellie was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Creston.

Surviving Ellie is her husband Ron Moran of Creston; her children: Jeff Foutch of Lorimor, Ron (Karrie) Gepner of Creston, Roger (Brenda) Potter of Newton, Rick (Kenna) Potter of Altoona, Shelly Potter (Ben) Johnson of Newton and Ryan (Crystal) Moran of Morehead, Kentucky; brother Gerald (Sherri) Barnes of New Market; sister Leanna Ohnmacht of Maryville, Missouri; daughter-in-law Kathy Foutch of Winterset; 22 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and many other extended family members.

Ellie was preceded in death by her parents; four sons: Dennis Michael in infancy in 1957, Robert Potter in 2021, Mark Foutch in 2021 and Kevin Foutch in 2024; her siblings: Eldon Barnes, Carlotta Key, Kenneth Barnes, Elaine Dillon and Rebecca McKinney.
