Jerold “Jerry” Gibson, 76, of Afton, died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2025, at Greater Regional Health in Creston. Celebration of Life Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13 at Salem Lutheran Church in Creston. Pastor Jim Mossman will officiate. Services will be livestreamed. Flag presentation will be provided by Theodore J. Martens, Creston V.F.W. Post 1797. The burial will be in Oketo Cemetery in Oketo, Kansas, at a later date. Open visitation will be 2-7 p.m., with the family to receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Friday, Dec. 12, at Powers Funeral Home in Creston.

Jerold Lee Gibson was born Oct. 12, 1949, son to Dean Phillip Gibson and Esther C. (Geihsler) Gibson in Marysville, Kansas. He graduated from Summerfield High School in Summerfield, Kansas, in 1967. Jerry began serving his country as part of the U.S. Army Reserve in 1967. He also continued his education at Beloit Technical College in television repair and electronics.
On Aug. 16, 1969, Jerry was united in marriage to Myrna M. Sejkora. From this union, they were blessed with four children: Phillip, Kristine, Jeffrey and Curtis. They settled in Beattie, Kansas, where he worked for New Holland Farm Implement and continued to serve his country as a part of the Army Reserve. They were later divorced.
On April 24, 1981, Jerry was united in marriage to Cynthia Ann Luyjemeier in Miami, Oklahoma. From this union they were blessed with two children, Veronica and Ryan. They settled in Marysville. He later went to full-time military service in the U.S. Army and they moved to Fort Riley, Kansas, later, being transferred to El Dorado, Kansas, where he continued to serve. The family moved to Creston in 1997 following Jerry’s retirement from the military. Jerry enjoyed being active, so he began working at Southern Iowa Trolley where he worked until 2023, and it was hard for him to give up that position. He enjoyed going to and watching his grandchildren’s activities. Jerry was a member of the Salem Lutheran Church in Creston.
Jerry is survived by his wife Cindy Gibson of Afton; six children: Phillip (Krista) Gibson of Abernathy, Texas, Tina (David) Blackmore of Platte City, Missouri, Jeff (Carrie) Gibson of Kansas City, Missouri, Curtis of Lenexa, Kansas, Veronica (Justin) Stiens of Prescott and Ryan (Chelsea) Gibson of Riverview, Florida; many grandchildren and a brother, Danny (Karen) Gibson of Merrian, Kansas.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Steve Gibson.
