Stanley Manship, 76, of Newark, Texas, formerly of Afton, died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2025, in the presence of immediate family in Decatur, Texas.

Stanley Manship, 76, of Newark, Texas, formerly of Afton, died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2025, in the presence of immediate family in Decatur, Texas. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be 11 a.m. Nov. 14, at Powers Funeral Home in Afton. Pastor Sheila Sutton will officiate. Theodore J. Martens V.F.W. Post #1797 will be providing full military honors. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery near Afton. Open visitation with family receiving friends will be 10-11 a.m., prior to service at Powers Funeral Home in Afton.

Stanley Ray Manship was born Sept. 2, 1949, son of Leroy Dale Manship and Velma Louise (Edwards) Manship in Maryville, Missouri. He attended Afton schools and graduated with the class of 1968. He later went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Navy from 1968-1972 as a Seaman, earning his National Defense Service Medal.

While on leave from the Navy, Stanley was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart Joyce Parker. From this union came two children, Shellie and Timothy. After his honorable discharge, Stan went to school briefly and also worked at an auto dealer.

They later moved and lived in Texas where he did sandblast work on tanks, worked briefly for a paper company and finally, Tarrant County Sheriff’s Department as a jailer, which he retired from. Stan and Joyce later divorced. He loved to hunt and fish in his spare time.

Stanley is survived by his ex-wife Joyce Manship of North Richland Hills, Texas; children, Shellie (Jeffrey Sr.) Richardson of Newark and Timothy Manship of North Richland Hills; his parents, Dale and Velma Manship of Afton; three grandchildren: Kristian (Kenny) Wenink, Justin Richardson and Jeffrey Jr. Richardson and two great-grandchildren, Zayden and Colton Wenink.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald Manship.
