Lorraine Kile, 93, of Waukee, formerly of Winterset, passed away Saturday, Sept. 27, 2025, at Attivo Trail 55+ Active Living in Waukee.

Lorraine Irene Mitchell was born May 2, 1932, to Clem and Vera (Hardisty) Mitchell in Webster Township, Madison County. She grew up in Madison and Adair counties, attending country school through the eighth grade, Greenfield High School and later, Winterset High School, where she graduated from in 1950.

On Dec. 6, 1953, Lorraine was united in marriage to Wayne E. Kile at the First United Methodist Church in Winterset. Together they were blessed with two children, Peggy and Michael.

Lorraine worked at Union State Bank for four years before staying home to raise her children. She later worked for the city of Winterset, where she dedicated 26 years of service, retiring in 1993.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Winterset. Genealogy was her lifelong passion, and she was active in the Madison County Genealogy Society from its founding. Lorraine loved spending time with her family, especially on trips to Colorado. She later enjoyed bus trips.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Wayne; sister Marilyn (Marvin) Fairholm and brother Maurice (Phyllis) Mitchell.

She is survived by her daughter Peggy (Doug) Lynch of West Des Moines; her son Michael (Jody) Kile of Des Moines; her grandchildren: Andrew (Julie) Lynch, Stefanie (Chris) Neumer, Misty Lynch, Lindsey Kile (Matt Doherty) and Aaron (Maggie) Kile; great-grandchildren: Sofia and Alexa Neumer and Emma and Jackson Lynch and brother Bill (Sharon) Mitchell.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, Oct 3, at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home in Winterset, with visitation beginning one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Winterset Cemetery.
