Irene Peppmeier, 98, of Creston, died Sept. 29, 2025, at Accura HealthCare of Creston. Celebration of Life Services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, Oct. 3, at Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Pastor Sheila Sutton will officiate. Services will be livestreamed at a link under her obituary at powersfh.com. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery in Creston. Open visitation will be 2-7 p.m., with family receiving friends 5-7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 2, at Powers Funeral Home in Creston.

Lena “Irene” (Swanson) Peppmeier was born April 20, 1927, the daughter of Mary Callista (Maloney) Swanson and Maynard F. Swanson in Ringgold County. She graduated from Shannon City High School in 1945 and then taught school at Grant #1.

On Feb. 12, 1946, Irene was united in marriage to Earl Keith Peppmeier in Carlisle. She later went back to school and substitute taught in several local schools. She spent most of her married life raising children and working with her husband on the family farm. Irene enjoyed family, children and especially her grandchildren. Earl passed away in 2008.

Her marriage was blessed with four children: Marilyn (JC) McCall, Dennis (Janet) Peppmeier, Judy (Jim) Oshel and Ken (Lori) Peppmeier; 10 grandchildren: Amy, Ray, Jill, Brian, Karen, Deric, Ryan, Brooke, Ayla and Zack, as well as many great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Earl; brothers: Howard, Carl and Ralph; sisters: Agnes and Anna; daughter Marilyn and son-in-law Jim.
