Richard “Dick” Stream, 82, of Afton, died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2025, at Clearview Nursing Home in Mount Ayr. A visitation gathering, with a luncheon will be held 12 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at the Trinity Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall in Creston. Family requests casual dress.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are to the family. Full military rites will be provided by Theodore J. Martens, Creston VFW Post #1797.
Richard William Stream was born on Dec. 1, 1942, to Adeline Jeanette (Becker) and Robert Waldo Stream in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Dick attended Creston High School. He served his country as part of the United States Air Force from 1960 to 1963 and then returned to Creston where he worked for Hills McCanna. He also did construction for Slim Cordell, worked for Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad and was a farmhand for a short time.
On June 29, 1987, Dick was united in marriage to Sharon Anne Ausman in Creston and settled in Afton. In 1989, Dick began working for the city of Afton in maintenance as the maintenance supervisor until he retired in 2008. In May of 2009, he became actively involved in the Three Mile Lake Conservation Project and was an active member of Highlakes Conservation Association, National Rifleman Association and the Iowa State Archery Association.
Dick is survived by his wife Sharon Stream of Afton; two sons, Darrin (Dawn) Ausman of Nevada and Brent (Dori) Tucker of Harlan; one brother, Douglas (Deb) Stream of Weslaco, Texas; three sisters: Cloa Mae Faulkner of Papillion, Nebraska, Cindy Isdahl of Creston and Linda Stream of Creston; three sister in-law: April Stream of Culver, Oregon, Sonya (Darryhl) Meyer of Cedar Rapids and Pat Stream of Lenox; seven grandchildren: Michael Tucker, ReNee Reising, Marshall Tucker, Peyton Tucker, Christine Ausman, Claire Ausman and Caroline Ausman and special friends, Doug Jones, Scott Mitchell and Charlene Hudson.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, David Stream and Ormas Stream and two brothers-in-law, Richard Faulkner and Lloyd Isdahl.
