Janet Loos, 81, of Lamoni, died Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2025, at Lamoni Specialty Care in Lamoni. No services will be held for Janet. Burial will be in the Moon Cemetery near Macksburg at a later date.

Janet Louise (Wheeler) Loos was born Oct. 20, 1943, to Elga Arga Wheeler and Doris Mildred (McMains) Wheeler in Macksburg. She grew up in Macksburg and while attending high school she lettered four years in basketball, softball and mixed chorus. She was well known by the community for her basketball-playing skills. She graduated from Macksburg High School in 1961, and received her LPN license from Iowa Western Community College and was licensed in Iowa and Kansas.
Janet worked in several hospitals and nursing homes over the years in Iowa and Kansas, owned Whistlestop Creamery in Earlham, ran an antique shop in Kansas and worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company.
On July 6, 1991, Janet was united in marriage to David Loos at Pine Valley in Creston. After marriage, they opened the Whistlestop Creamery in Earlham. Janet enjoyed gardening, bird watching, especially hummingbirds, and tending to her dogs and cats. She loved horses and was an avid horse rider, including barrel racing in rodeos on her special horse Tawney. She loved to read and she and David enjoyed going to different antique stores and taking long drives to different towns.
Surviving are her daughters, Jerri (Mike) Murren of Lamoni and Kasi (Mark) Haines of Topeka, Kansas; her sister Shirley Lattig of Macksburg; four grandchildren: Tara Sell, Noble Murren, Kaylin Dreher and Tyler Haines; five great-grandchildren: Jovie, Annabeth, Oliver, Kaiser and Morrigan; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents and her husband David Loos in February 2025.
