Candi Brotherton, 68, of Emmetsburg, formerly of Creston, passed away Friday, Aug. 15, 2025, in Emmetsburg

Candi Brotherton passed away Friday, Aug. 15, 2025, in Emmetsburg. A Celebration of Life will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, at The Pantry Event Center, 417 Wyoming Ave., Creston.

Candace Dee Brotherton was born on Feb. 17, 1957, to Dale and Carolyn (Lauer) Dillenburg in Creston. She passed away on Aug. 15, after good weeks at home, visiting with family and friends.

Candi attended Creston High School, Southwestern Community College and the University of Nebraska at Omaha. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice.

Candi worked at the Douglas County Youth Center in Omaha, Nebraska, and Green Valley Area Education Agency in Creston. She was active with home-daycare, volunteering at schools and keeping up with athletic and band events. She enjoyed free time after moving with Tom to Emmetsburg.

The most important things in her life were family, friends and antiquing. Candi greatly enjoyed looking for unique items and bargains. Her interests included travel, international food and sweepstakes. Candi’s humor was appreciated by many and her passion for life enriched others.

Candi is survived by her husband Tom; son Nathan; mother Carolyn; sister Shari Eivins; brother Jeff; in-laws, Kathy and Doug Rice and Jeff and Gretchen Brotherton; nieces; nephews; numerous uncles and aunts, many cousins and friends.
