Janet Belle Frink, daughter of C.L. “Slim” Gossard and Letta “Belle” (Hess) Gossard, was born May 31, 1937, in Mount Etna. Janet graduated from Red Oak High School with the class of 1956.
Jan met the love of her life, Donald E. Frink, and they were united in marriage June 24, 1956, at the Red Oak United Methodist Church. For the first seven years they were married, they lived in ½ of a boxcar while Don worked as a welder for the railroad and welded track. Following those years, they moved several different times. They lived in Council Bluffs for several years when their children were young. As a family, they enjoyed riding motorcycles along the river and would take a picnic basket along for lunch and in the winter they enjoyed ice skating. They moved to Lenox where Janet was an active mother and homemaker.
They later moved to Creston where Jan worked at Purolator on the line for a couple of years before going to work for Hills-McCanna where she blew glass as part of the production process. She finally worked at Gits Manufacturing for 27 years until she retired in 1999. Jan was an active volunteer at the Creston Area Food Pantry for many years.
Jan is survived by her two children, Timothy Frink of Treynor and Nancy Abell (Larry Dudley) of Orient; seven grandchildren: Don Frink, Andy Frink, Brett Frink (fiance Maxine), Hidie (Tom Waters) and Adam (Tonya) Abell, Amanda Woods and Briana (James) Eaves; 17 great-grandchildren; a sister, Elaine Butler of Denver, Colorado, along with many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents; husband Donald; daughter-in-law Linda Frink; son-in-law Rod Abell; granddaughter Liz Lewis; grandson Charlie (Desiree) Abell and step-granddaughter Jennifer Babcock.
