Ronald Lee Edwards, known affectionately as Ron, was born on Feb. 14, 1949, in Creston. He lived a full life dedicated to family, service and hard work until his passing July 19, 2025, at Bergan Mercy Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.
Ron enlisted in the United States Marine Corps March 8, 1966, and honorably served until Feb. 9, 1969. He completed a tour of duty in Vietnam, earning several distinguished awards including a Combat Action Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and a Vietnam Service Medal. His military service was a point of pride for him, and he was able to demonstrate his marksmanship as a rifle expert.
After returning to civilian life, Ron pursued a career in the maintenance field. He worked for Wellman Dynamics in Creston as head of the maintenance department for several years. Additionally, Ron was a heavy equipment mechanic for Max Smith Construction, a role that further exemplified his dedication and skill.
Ron received his education in the Creston public schools, setting the foundation for a life filled not only with professional accomplishments but also with devotion to family. On April 15, 1970, he was united in marriage to Donna Moore in Grant City, Missouri. Their union blessed them with two children, James and Roxanne, who were central to Ron’s life.
He is survived by his loving wife Donna Edwards of Creston; son James (Amy) Moffitt of Irving, Texas; grandsons: Tristan and Grayson Moffitt and Cashton and Colton Weeks and granddaughter Charley Weeks. Ron also leaves behind his stepdaughter Raeleen Smith Martinez, of Creston; step-granddaughters: Angie Hartman and family, Brandy Sick and family and Haley Schlapia and family; as well as his sister Carolyn Schuemann of Des Moines and many other step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren who will cherish his memory.
Sadly, Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert “Hub” and Irene (Pratt) Edwards; his in-laws, Darrell and Pearl Moore; daughter Roxanne Edwards; stepdaughter Colleen Smith and step-grandson Jade Perez.
A graveside service in honor of Ron will take place 1:30 p.m. July 30, at Graceland Cemetery in Creston. Pastor Rick Titus will officiate the service. Military Honors will be provided by the United States Marines and the Creston VFW Post #1797.
Ron’s legacy will live on through the family and friends he cherished deeply. Pearson Family Funeral Service & Cremation Center is in charge of the arrangements. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family for a future determination.
