Dan Ripperger, 81, of Afton, died Sunday, July 20, 2025, at Greater Regional Health in Creston. A Celebration of Life Service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, July 26, at the Powers Funeral Home, 612 N. Dodge St. in Afton. Services will be livestreamed at a link under his obituary at powersfh.com. Pastor Sheila Sutton will officiate. Burial will be in St. Edward Cemetery of Afton. Open visitation will be 2-7 p.m., with family receiving friends 5-7 p.m., Friday, July 25, at Powers Funeral Home in Afton,

Daniel Ray Ripperger, son of Raymond Thomas Ripperger and Reva Arlene (Shawler) Ripperger, was born March 10, 1944, in Creston. He attended and graduated from East Union High School in 1962.
On June 13, 1964, Dan was united in marriage to Rayma Ann Stewart at St. Edward Catholic Church in Afton. From this union came four children – Julia Marie, Peggy Sue, Tami Rae and Alex John. Dan primarily worked as a truck driver for Creston Feed & Grain and Farmer’s Cooperative – between the two he worked for 48 years. Dan retired in 2017.
Dan loved coon hunting, participating in the World Coon Hunt Competition, going to flea markets, riding his motorcycle with his wife and friends, taking trips to Cheyenne, Wyoming, Tennessee and Calgary, Canada, and most of all spending time with his kids and grandkids.
Dan was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church in Afton.
Dan is survived by his wife of 61 years, Rayma Ripperger of Afton; his children: Julia Tilson of Leavenworth, Kansas, Tami (Randy) Arnold of Humeston and Alex (Candace) Ripperger of Afton; sister Kathy Davis of Horseheads, New York; sisters-in-law: Sherry Ripperger of Des Moines, Barb Stewart of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, and Ramona Landers of Lorimor; brother-in-law Robert Stewart; nine grandchildren: Aaron Tilson, Cody (Allie) Tilson, Elijah (Caleb Thornton) Tilson, Sarah Woodsmall, Shane Woodsmall, Chet Arnold, Cali Arnold, Kacie (Will) Gordon and Seth Ripperger; four great-grandchildren: Dax, Amelia, Hadlee and Harvey; along with numerous family and friends.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Peggy Woodsmall; two brothers, Dick and Steve Ripperger; his in-laws, Gene and Wilma Stewart and three brothers-in-law: Turner Davis, Raymond Stewart and Rick Landers.
