Carl Von Stein, 86, of Creston, died Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at Creston Specialty Care.

Carl Lee Von Stein, 86, of Creston, died Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at Creston Specialty Care in Creston. A Celebration of Life service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, at Powers Funeral Home, 601 New York Ave. in Creston. Pastor Jodi Rushing will officiate the service. Burials will be at Greenlawn Cemetery of Afton and Mitchellville Cemetery. Open visitation with family receiving friends will be from 12 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, at Powers Funeral Home in Creston.

A committal service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 11, at the Mitchellville Cemetery in Mitchellville. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. at the Mitchellville Community Center.

Carl Lee Von Stein, son of Walter Monroe Von Stein and Eleanor Rose (Anderson) Von Stein, was born June 27, 1939, in Bondurant. He was educated in the Bondurant schools and graduated with the class of 1957.

Lee was united in marriage to Loretta May Kinney in 1957. They later divorced.

In 1988, Lee was united in marriage to Ellen Mae McFee at the Bondurant Christian Church.

Lee worked at Armstrong Tire Company for four years and the Bondurant Co-op for two years. Following that, he started farming and doing custom work. He did this for 30 years and soldout in 1993. He then started working as a manager at a manufactured home park and sold the homes, too.

Lee was a member of the Bondurant Christian Church, was the president of Jaycees in Mitchellville and served on the board of the Mitchellville Co-op Elevator.

Lee is survived by his daughters, Teresa Von Stein-Hon of Altoona and stepdaughter Carrie Stevens of Creston; two sons, Ken Von Stein. and Scott Von Stein, both of Des Moines; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother Steve (Marlys) Von Stein of Bondurant; sisters, Jeane Zelensky of Scottsdale, Arizona, and Jeri (Homer) Brumley of Warsaw, Missouri, and many other extended family members.

Lee was preceded in death by his parents; wife Ellen in 2013; son, Bob Von Stein; sister Joann in infancy; brothers, Leon (Joan) Von Stein and Dean (Cheryl) Von Stein; daughter-in-law Sheila Von Stein and brother-in-law Ed Zelenksy.
