Richard P. Madison Sr., 91, of Creston, passed away Sunday, June 8, 2025, at the Kavanagh Hospice House in Des Moines. Celebration of Life Memorial Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 21, 2025, at Powers Funeral Home, 601 New York Ave., in Creston. Services will be livestreamed. The flag presentation will be provided by Theodore J. Martens Creston V.F.W. Post #1797. Burial will be private. Pastor Jodi Rushing will officiate. Open visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m., with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, June 20, at Powers Funeral Home.

Richard Paul Madison Sr. was born April 2, 1934, to Orville Blaine Madison and Ethel Marie (Anderson) Madison in Creston. He graduated from Creston High School in 1952 and studied for two years at Creston Community College, graduating in 1954.
On May 29, 1955, Richard was united in marriage to Joan May Osborn in Creston at the First Methodist Church. They lived in the Zion area where Richard began working at the local Sherwin-Williams Paint Store in Creston. They then moved to Norfolk, Virginia, while Richard served his country as a part of the United States Navy. After they moved back to a home north of Prescott, Richard began working on the farm for Wayne Jackson. He rented a farm southwest of Afton prior to purchasing his own farm north of Creston in 1968, where he continued to farm and reside. In 1969, Richard began working for the U.S. Postal Service in Creston. He later transferred to Arispe as postmaster until his retirement in 1992.
Richard was a member of Jerusalem United Methodist Church of Creston.
Survivors include his five children: Richard P. (Terry) Madison Jr. of Creston, Melody J. (Arnold) Stoll of Creston, Dawn J. (Doug) Biere of Johnston, Jon M. (Patti) Madison of Ankeny and Patrick J. (Jean) Madison of Afton; 13 grandchildren: Rachel (Jerard) Williams, Richard Paul (Marie) Madison III, Josh Madison, Nicole (Andy) Jennett, Alex (Victoria) Stoll, Jeremy Stoll, Brandon (Mollie) Biere, Brittney Biere, Shelby (Steven) Young, Jacob Madison, Garret Madison, Justin (Steph) Madison and Chelsey Madison; 18 great-grandchildren: Kaden and Jessa Williams, Ulysses, Evelina and Ivan Madison, Olivia and Evan Jennett, Victoria, Amelia, Albert, Felix and Madison Stoll, Zander and Bennett Biere, Rowan and Griffin Young and Isaac and Caden Ditzler; brother Robert (Jorita) Madison of Des Moines; sister-in-law Joy Wallace of Davis City and numerous nieces and nephews.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; wife Joan in 2019; two brothers, Gordon (Kathleen) Madison and Wayne (Bev) Madison and sister Janice (Carl) Embree.
