Sam Beaty, 83, of Creston, died April 30, 2025, at Creston Specialty Care in Creston. Combined Celebration of Life Services for Sam and Jerry Beaty will be 10 a.m. Monday, May 5, at Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Services will be livestreamed by accessing a link at www.powersfh.com. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery in Creston. Pastor Bill Armstrong will officiate. The family requests everyone wear Kansas City Chiefs attire. Open visitation will be 2-7 p.m. with family receiving friends from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, May 4, at Powers Funeral Home in Creston.

Sam K. Beaty, son of Lloyd George Beaty and Marguerite E. (Brown) Beaty, was born April 2, 1942, in Centerville. On Nov. 1, 1958, Sam was united in marriage to Jerry Lynn Oak in Nashua at the Little Brown Church. He then graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1960, and received his mortuary degree from the University of Minnesota.
Sam worked at Avey Funeral Home in Marshalltown in 1965, then moved to Chariton where he worked at Feildings Funeral Home. They moved to Creston in 1974, where Sam worked for Coen’s Funeral Home, later becoming co-owner/operator of what became the Coen-Beaty Funeral Home. Sam continued to keep his license active after retiring, working part-time in Lacona, Glenwood and Onawa at Hamilton’s Funeral Homes and Powers Funeral Home in Creston.
He was a member of the First Christian Church in Creston, served on the city council, was a longtime member of the Creston Elks Lodge #605, serving as past Exalted Ruler, a member of Kiwanis in Creston, Creston Eagle’s Lodge #1398 and an IFDA member, receiving his 50-year pin in 2015.
Sam loved watching the Kansas City Chiefs, playing golf, cribbage and any board game with family and supporting his kids and grandchildren in all their events through the years.
He is survived by his children, Jack Beaty of Lenox, Scott (Lorie Mestdagh) Beaty of Urbana and Rebecca (Robert) Hague of Creston; his brother-in-law, Jack Oak of Edmond, Oklahoma; his grandchildren, Jesse Beaty (significant other Angie), Kalina (Dominik) Shakespeare, McKenna Beaty, Brooke Hague and Zachary (Mason) Hague; two great-granddaughters, Evelyn and Mya Mae and his beloved dog, Biscut.
He was preceded in death by his wife Jerry in February 2025; parents, Lloyd and Marguerite Beaty; in-laws, Henry and Dorothy; brother, Dennis Beaty; sisters, Thelma (Don) Ahee, Kathryn (Charles) Butler and Carol (Ray) Farr and sisters-in-law, Sandy Oak and Marcie Oak.
