Roy Edward Rath Jr. was born Sept. 2, 1941, the son of Mildred Marie Jason and Roy E. Rath Sr. in Springfield, Illinois. He passed away March 27, 2025, at the age of 83.
Roy was raised in Springfield. He joined the United States Air Force where he was a jet mechanic, serving from 1958 through 1962. He attended junior college and then began work with Bunn-O-Matic from 1966 to 1978 in Springfield.
Roy, his wife Marge and daughter Julie moved to Creston in 1978, continuing work with Bunn-O-Matic until retiring in 2001. During his career with Bunn-O-Matic he received numerous certificates for continuing education in different fields of study. Upon retirement they moved to Fort Cooper, Inverness, Florida.
During his 60 years of marriage to Marjorie (Lamoreau) Rath, they raised three kids together.
Roy valued his family and spending time with children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Some of his hobbies included hunting, fishing, mushroom hunting, singing, playing guitar, writing music and wood carving. He also enjoyed bike riding on the trail and taking his boat out on the lake.
Roy is survived by his wife Marjorie “Marge” Rath; daughters, Vicki Vicker of Inverness and Julie (Wayne) Smith of Charlotte, North Carolina; son Alan (Vicki) Brewer of Pawnee, Illinois; grandchildren: Staci (Chad) Wilker of Creston, Dawna (Jon) Edie of Auburn, Illinois, Tim Brewer and Kevin Brewer, both of Pawnee and Amanda Smith of Lancaster, South Carolina; great-grandchildren: Darren (Jessica) Wilker of Creston, Megan Wilker of Creston, Cole and Clay Edie of Auburn, Paisley Brewer of Pawnee and J.W. of Lancaster; and great-great-grandchildren, Blake and Madison Brown and Jaygen Wilker, all of Creston.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Roy E. Roth Sr. and Mildred Marie Jason; sister Ethel and great-granddaughter Abby Jo Wilker.
Roy will be remembered for the time he cherished with his family, his fun-loving nature and his ability to always, no matter what mood you were in, put a smile on your face.
He was the kind of man who never met a stranger and was always there to help anyone in any way he could.
Roy was cremated in Florida. Services will held at a later date at Camp Butler Cemetery in Springfield, Illinois.
Roy will forever be in our hearts. He may be gone, but he will never be forgotten.
