Nicholas “Nick” John Fehring was born Jan. 28, 1982, as the middle triplet to John “Jack” Fehring and Paula (Bush) Fehring in Omaha, Nebraska. He grew up on the family farm south of Lenox. Nick spent his childhood helping his dad with the family cattle/crop operation, being bossed around by his two sisters, playing at Aunt Norma’s house, fishing at Wilson’s Lake, hunting in the wilderness area and camping and boating at Lake Icaria. In high school, Nick excelled at playing the tuba/trombone/baritone in all of Lenox’s bands and in speech/drama.

Nick attended Lenox Schools and graduated with honors with the class of 2000. Nick then attended Iowa State University, graduating with a degree in animal ecology with a fisheries and aquatic science option. He went on to work in the areas of fisheries/hatcheries, water quality and test-plot management. In the summer of 2015, Nick landed his dream job as the Taylor County Conservation Director.

Nick married Jamie Bozwell Sept. 26, 2009. From this union, Nick was given the loves of his life: Samuel John followed by Alice Rose. Nick’s very favorite role was being a dad, and he was the very best at it. From playing monster, to pillow pit, to a bumpy ride to town, Nick brought the fun and imagination. Sam and Alice were his everything.

Nick also enjoyed fishing, mushroom and shed hunting, cooking shows, listening to music and still being bossed around by his sisters. His favorites were old flannels, worn boots, well-loved hats, gourmet recipes and conservation practices. He hated people chewing gum, planning ahead and top-shelf whiskey. Nick had many nicknames: Sport, The Foreman, Butch, B-Squared and Fehring, just to name a few.

Nick was preceded in death by his beloved dad, Jack Fehring; his maternal grandparents, Orvin and Charlotte Bush; his paternal grandparents, Norbert and Helen Fehring and his dearest great-aunt Norma (Nick was her favorite).

Left to honor Nick’s memory are his children, Samuel and Alice Fehring; Nick’s precious mom, Paula Fehring; his heartbroken sisters and brothers-in-law, Kate and Sean Shafar (Charlotte, Camille and Vin) and Sarah and Zach Gunsolley (Jackson, Elizabeth and Lincoln); uncles, aunts, cousins, extended family and countless friends.
