Marie Schroeder, 90, of Creston, died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2025, at Clearview Home in Mount Ayr. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Creston. Burial will be in the Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Council Bluffs. Father Patrick Amedeka will officiate. Open visitation will be 2-5 p.m., Monday, Feb. 3, at Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church.

Marie Ann Schroeder was born Oct. 10, 1934, to Joseph Amato and Grace Carrubba in Council Bluffs. She graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in Council Bluffs in 1952.
On Oct. 19, 1957, Marie was united in marriage to William “Bill” Hans Schroeder Jr. in Council Bluffs. They started their lives together in Council Bluffs where she worked as a legal secretary. In 1965 they moved to Malvern where she worked as an active mother and homemaker. In 1970 they moved to Creston. Beginning in 1976, she worked as a switchboard operator for Greater Regional Medical Center where she stayed for 23 years.
Marie was an active member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church and the altar society. She volunteered there, helping to prepare many funeral dinners and working at the Rectory Rerun. She was known to family and friends as an excellent cook and baker, and she made a mean cheeseball.
Marie is survived by two daughters, Linda Lawrence of Gowrie and Ann Marie (Kendall) Powers of Creston; one son, William Schroeder of Santa Ana, California; eight grandchildren: Laura Buske, Ashley (Kelly) Thiele, Trey (Maggie) Lawrence, Trenton Lawrence, Zachary Powers, Jacob (Hallie) Powers, Tessa Powers and Ella Powers; along with three great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 2004; sister, Anita (Paul) Ruffner; brother, Angelo Amato; son-in-law, Troy Lawrence and granddaughter, Zoe M. Powers.
