Timothy L. Robinson, also known as Tim or TR, 71, of Des Moines, passed away Sunday, July 28, 2024, at his home. Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 5, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, at the Plymouth Congregational Church, 4126, Ingersoll Avenue, Des Moines.
Tim was born May 22, 1953, in Reinbeck, where he spent his entire childhood. He studied at the University of Northern Iowa and started his career of teaching, which was his passion for 32 years. Tim loved teaching his students English and Spanish at Diagonal, Baxter and SWCC throughout the years.
In 1989 Prairie Meadows opened and lucky for them, Tim was one of the very first employees. Little did they know, he would stay until 2020 when he retired. TR met lifelong friends and was a mentor to many at Prairie Meadows.
He was always there to cheer on and support the successes of people in his life, and you’d hear all about it in his yearly Christmas card. Tim lived life to the fullest and took any chance he could to travel with family and friends. As long as he had his nose in a book, the “Golden Girls” on TV or was in the presence of chatty company, he was happy.
Friends and family will miss our sharply dressed host with the most, as Tim was the best at getting everyone together. Anytime you went to Tim’s or an event he was at, you knew you were going to be fed well, learn new facts and be entertained with his unforgettable laugh.
Tim passed away unexpectedly with many plans organized and instructions left to give. The world will never be the same, as he was truly one of a kind.
Tim is survived by his brother Larry Robinson; sisters, Jackie Birdsell and Terry (Scott) Thompson; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Tim is preceded in death by his parents, Lyle and Victoria Robinson and sister, Judy Hicks.
They say as you grow up that you can choose your family and many people chose to have Tim as part of their family. He loved his family, but the amount of chosen family that Tim was blessed with in his life shows the value and happiness that Tim brought to those around him.
