Lois Jean (Kirkpatrick) Jay was born Oct. 10, 1932, to Dwight and Irene Kirkpatrick in Carl. Her family moved many times and she was raised in a few small towns in southwest Iowa. After her years of school, Lois worked as a teenager waitressing at the Iowana Hotel in Creston. After the Iowana, she worked as a telephone operator for Creston Mutual Telephone Co. Her job at Creston Mutual is where she met her future husband. On Sept. 14, 1957, she was united in marriage to Bill Jay. The couple was blessed with three children: Denny, Randy and Barb.

After the birth of her children, Lois was a stay-at-home mom and later ran her own in-home daycare where she cared for many kids from the community for over 20 years. She enjoyed gardening and time spent with her neighbors. She and Bill enjoyed following all of their children’s school activities and sporting events. Lois was also a Den Mother to her son’s Boy Scout troop, which she took great pride in.

Through the years, Lois and Bill enjoyed many trips to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where they would visit their son, Randy, and his family. Her greatest joy was the time she spent with her grandkids and great-grandkids.
