Mary Lu was born March 1, 1933, one of 12 children of Mary Ethel (Smith) Beemer and Simmie Bryan Beemer, in rural Conway, Taylor County. She grew up and attended Conway Consolidated Schools, graduating in 1953.

Lu met the love of her life, Lloyd Junior Schofield, at the Lenox Skating Rink above Bunn Jewelry Store. They were married in Conway at the Methodist Church Aug. 4, 1953. Three days later, Lloyd was drafted to Korea. Lu lived and worked at the Conway Phone Office.

Lloyd returned from Korea, and in 1957 they moved to their residence, the farm east of the big tree, where the four-county corners are marked. In 1959 their first child, Brian Jack Schofield, was born. Bonnie Beth came next in 1962 and Deena Kay in 1966.

Lu was a homemaker and helped Lloyd on the farm as the kids grew up. She enjoyed painting, gardening, sewing and baking. There were numerous neighborhood social clubs she enjoyed belonging to. In 1991, Lloyd unexpectedly passed. Lu remained on the farm and worked as an assistant preschool teacher.

She was an active member of the First Christian Church in Clearfield. Her favorite things were dancing, quilting and spending time with family, grandchildren and friends. She enjoyed her 91st birthday March 1 with family present.
