Steven Abell, 77, of Creston, died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2024, at Creston Specialty Care in Creston.

Steven Abell, 77, of Creston, formerly of Cromwell, passed away Thursday, Feb. 8, 2024, at Creston Specialty Care. Funeral services were held 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 13, at the Cromwell United Church of Christ, Rev. Mary O’Riley officiating. Steven was laid to rest in the Maple Hill Cemetery, Cromwell, with military honors provided by the United States Air Force and Theodore J. Martens VFW Post #1797. Open visitation was 3-7:30 p.m., with family receiving friends from 6-7:30 p.m., Monday, Feb. 12 at Pearson Family Funeral Service & Cremation Center of Creston.

Steven Eugene Abell was born Sept. 16, 1946, in Creston, the fifth of six sons born to Charles Herbert and Jessie Elizabeth (Dorsey) Abell. Steven was raised in the Cromwell area, graduated from Creston High School and was drafted into the United States Air Force in 1965. He served four years and six months during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in July 1969. On Jan. 12, 1967, Steven was united in marriage to Irene Eleanor Perkerwicz. Three children were born to bless this union: Danny, Paula and Michelle.

Upon his return to civilian life, Steven worked various jobs in the area including Burlington Northern Railroad and Purolator. He eventually began a long career working for Wellman Dynamics as a heat treater. He retired from Wellman and loved the time spent with his family and friends. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Steven is survived by his children: Danny (Patty) Abell of Greenfield, Paula (Darrell) Bates of Fontanelle and Michelle Snyder of Creston. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Shawna, Kayla, Briley, Tyler and Massie; one great-grandson, Drey and sisters-in-law: Sharon Abell of Cromwell, Mary Abell of Creston, Phyllis Abell of Colorado, Mary Jorgenson of Minnesota, and Nancy Abell of Creston.

Preceding Steven in death were his wife, Irene in 2003; his five brothers: Joe, Jim, Jackie (infant), Fred and Rod Abell; his parents; brother-in-law, Ron Jorgenson and sister-in-law, Catherine Nystul.
