Glen Gene McClure, 79, of Bellevue, Nebraska, formerly of Creston and Ottumwa, passed away Feb. 5, 2024, at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.
Glen was born June 6, 1944, to Glen Robert McClure and Carol Laveta (Harris) McClure, near Floris. He married Cheryl Rae Coughlin Sept. 6, 1964, in Ottumwa. They lived in Ottumwa for 40 years before moving to Creston, then after almost 30 years, they moved to Bellevue, Nebraska, in 2019, to be closer to family.
He was a former employee of John Deere in Ottumwa and the Vanmark Corporation in Creston. He then joined the Share Corporation before retiring. Gene loved classic cars, bowling, coaching, playing cards and spending time outdoors hunting, fishing and camping. He loved his Chicago Cubs, Hawkeye football and basketball, but nothing even came close to his beloved grandchildren.
He is survived by his brother, Michael “Craig” McClure; two sons, Larry Gene (Michele) McClure of Bellevue, and Lonnie Ray (Damaris) McClure of Woodstock, Georgia; six grandchildren: Caroline, Julianne, Danielle, Marianne, Michael and Thomas; one niece, Jessica (Eric) Holt; three nephews: Jason (Marci) Sims, Jeff (Michaela) Sims and Dustin (Kelsey) McClure; six great-nephews and one great-niece.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Cheryl Rae (Coughlin) McClure.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 10 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Pastor Mel Kendall officiating. The burial will be in the IOOF cemetery in Bloomfield. Visitation will begin at 12 p.m., with the family present to greet friends from 5-7 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
