Constance Kaye Freemyer was born April 24, 1939, to Eugene Virgil and Monola Leona (Means) Freemyer in Iowa City. She was educated in Creston.

On Feb. 29, 1956, Connie married Rex Spainhower at the Christian Church in Creston. Together they had three children: Toby, Tonya and Torey.

Rex and Connie lived most of their married life in Creston, but resided a short time in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, as well as in the Los Angeles, California, area before returning back to their hometown of Creston.

As a couple, they owned and managed several businesses. Connie managed Mi Lady’s Fashions on Highway 34 where she loved working with the public. She later worked at Geis Jewelry, Palm Clothing and Van Gelder’s Clothing in Creston. When her children were in elementary school, Connie volunteered her time as a homeroom mother and also served as the PTA president at Franklin Elementary School in Creston. Connie was creative, outgoing and fun and she never met a stranger. She adored her husband, kids and grandkids and always just happened to have a photo of each of them handy to share.

Connie was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
