Valarie J. Overton

Valarie June Overton, 68, of Creston, died Monday, May 29, 2023, at her home in Creston. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be 4 p.m. Thursday June 1 at Powers Funeral Home, 601 New York Avenue in Creston. Visitation with family receiving friends will be one hour prior to the service, from 3-4 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home.

Valarie June Overton was born June 13, 1954, to Chester Hayes Nelson and Hannah Kathryn Stanley in Sycamore, Illinois. She was educated at Genoa-Kingston High School in Genoa, Illinois.

In 1970, Val married Nelson Edward Perrigo in Sycamore. They had three children: Marci, Kathryn and Loni. They lived and worked in Sycamore and Creston. Nelson died in 1980.

On Nov. 9, 1984, Val was united in marriage to Michael Overton, in Genoa. In 1987, they moved and settled in Creston. Together they had a son, Clint. Val worked at Creston Nursing and Rehab as a CNA/CMA for several years before working as a self-employed home health aide.

Val is survived by her husband, Michael Overton of Creston; children: Marci Perrigo-Skarda of Creston, Kathy West of Indianola, Loni Nelson of Creston and Clint (Jordan Killmon) Overton of Creston; thoughtful children Tracy and Lisa Fenton of Peru; her sister, Barbara Barb of Florida; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren she loved very much, extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Marilyn.
