Mike Livingston

Michael Livingston, 70, of Orient, died Thursday, March 2, 2023, in Hatfield, Missouri. Open visitation will be from 2-7:30 p.m. with family receiving friends 5:30-7:30 p.m. Friday March 10, 2023, at Powers Funeral Home, 601 New York Ave. in Creston. Memorial Services celebrating a life well lived will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 11, 2023, at Reach Church, 2725 Merle Hay Road, Des Moines, with Pastor Steve Beeman officiating. Private burial will be at a later date in Hill of Zion Cemetery.

Michael D. Livingston was born Dec. 13, 1952, to Rex Dean and Mary Lou (Green) Livingston in Winterset. He attended school for almost 11 years in Greenfield and then graduated from Bridgewater High School in 1971. After graduation Mike attended SWCC Auto Mechanics program.

Mike was united in marriage to Vanessa Jayne (Green) on July 28, 1972, at the Hill of Zion Church. They lived in the Orient area most of their married life.

Mike worked at the Ford Garage in Greenfield, S&S Ford Mercury for two years, then at Thompson Conoco Gas Station in Orient for two years. He then went to work as an agency manager for the Des Moines Register in Perry, later working with Creston Motor Company for one year. Mike joined UPS in 1979 and worked as a mechanic for 32 years until Feb. 23, 2011. In January 2011, he also began working with Creston School District as a mechanic and with the Orient School District as a bus driver. Mike was a member of the Reach Church in Des Moines.

Mike is survived by sons: Jason (Michelle) Livingston of Hartford, Jeremy (Tracy) Livingston of Shawnee, Kansas, and James Livingston (Mitzi) of Clear Lake; seven grandchildren: Kaleb (Anna) Livingston of Kalamazoo, Michigan, Kelsey Livingston (Bo) of Creston, Alli Reid and Grant Livingston of Shawnee, Garrett Taron Livingston of Winterset and Tyler and Kat of Clear Lake; three great-grandchildren: Nolan, Axel and Charlotte; brother Robin (Paula) Livingston of Fontanelle; two sisters, Cindy (Kevin) Moss of Fontanelle and Beth Christian of Texas; brother-in-law Rod (Barb) Green of Orient; sister-in-law Marcia (Jeff) Kralik of Creston; friend Valerie Welsch of Greenfield; two dogs, Happy and Duke; many other family members and close relatives.

He was preceded in death by his wife Jayne on Jan. 5, 2019; his parents, Rex and Mary Lou Livingston; a sister at birth and a brother as an infant.
