Marilyn Ann Fluckey, daughter of William “Bill” Henderson and Mary Bernadine (Stickle) Simmerman was born June 16, 1941, in Osceola and passed from this life, Jan. 31, 2023, at her home in Murray, at age 81.

Marilyn received her education from kindergarten through the second grade at Truro Public School. Her family moved south of Murray and she attended country school at Green Valley Troy #6 through sixth grade. She attended Murray Community Schools in seventh grade and graduated in 1959 from Murray High School. After graduation, she worked one year in Des Moines for Equitable Life Insurance Company.

On Feb. 6, 1960, she was united in marriage to Robert Charles (Bob) Fluckey at the Saint Bernard Catholic Church in Osceola. They were the first couple married in this church. Three children blessed this union. Marilyn helped with the farming and raised a big garden for her family. After all three children were in school she went to work for Osceola State Bank. She worked there about two years, then became employed as the Clarke County Deputy Clerk of Court in Osceola, She served as deputy from 1977 to 1988. On Jan. 1, 1989, Marilyn became the first district court clerk to be appointed by a panel of three judges to serve in Clarke County. She served as clerk of district court for 13 years, and a total of 25 years in the clerk’s office. She loved her job and helping many people gave her great joy.

She was a very outgoing person and always eager to make a stranger feel comfortable in any situation. She enjoyed her family, each holiday she would have her family to her home and enjoyed preparing the dinner for them. She also enjoyed going to her grandkids’ school and sporting events. Marilyn and Bob enjoyed dancing. Marilyn enjoyed singing as well as calling square dances. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and of the Murray Scholarship Foundation.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Mary Simmerman; brothers Donovan and Merrill Simmerman, sister and her husband, Donna Jean and Merrill Crittenden; sisters-in-law and their husbands: Marie and Ralph Hudson, Helen and Darrell Kingery, Evelyn and George Mathes and Frances and John Justice and brother-in-law, Joe Fluckey.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving husband of almost 63 years, Robert Charles Fluckey of Murray; daughter, Teresa (Mike) Jackson of Murray; son Todd Fluckey of Creston; daughter, Sheri (Scott) Neal of Newark, Texas; granddaughters, Marla (Austin) Wells, Tiffany (Jamie) Oswald and Ashleigh (Darin) Eckels all of Murray; grandson Tylar Neal and friend Perla Lagara of Alpharette, Georgia; great-grandchildren: Seth, Kathlena, Axton and Luxella Oswald and Harper, Leanna and Chase Eckels; sisters-in-law, Marjorie Simmerman of Indianola and Catherine Fluckey of Creston; other family and many friends.

Mass of Christian burial for Marilyn will be 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6 at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Osceola with interment following in the Murray Cemetery. Rosary services will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday, at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola with family greeting friends following from 2-4 p.m.
