Sylvia M. Marquart, 82, of Cromwell, died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2023. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, at Powers Funeral Home, 601 New York Avenue in Creston. Pastor Mary O’Riley will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Cromwell at a later date. Open visitation will be 3-7 p.m. with family receiving friends 5-7 p.m. Friday, at Powers Funeral Home.

Sylvia Margaret (Starks) Marquart, was born Oct. 20, 1940, daughter of Margaret Mildred (Kost) and Cecil Starks in St. Louis, Missouri. She attended Normandy High School in St. Louis. Sylvia worked as a waitress while living in St. Louis. Sylvia married Robert “Bob” J. Marquart April 28, 1973, in St. Louis County. They moved to Creston after purchasing and becoming co-owners of Creston Sanitation in 1973, operating it until July 1997, when they retired.

Sylvia was an active mother and homemaker. She was an active member of the Creston Eagles Lodge and former weekly league bowler at the Taylor Bowl. Sylvia is survived by her husband Robert “Bob” J. Marquart of Cromwell; four sons: Robert R. (Deborah) Marquart of Cromwell, Thomas L. (Tracy) Marquart of Creston, James A. (Deb) Marquart of Creston and Joseph R. Marquart of Creston; a sister-in-law Jeannie Ronquillo; a brother-in-law Richard (Patty) Marquart, two grandchildren Brandi (Matt) Smith and Corina (Troy) Hoepker; five great-grandchildren: Dylan, Kaylee and Tyler Hoepker and Lucas and Evan Smith, along with a host of nieces, nephews and many friends.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers: Harry, Richard, Dale and Stanley Starks; three sisters: Helen Jones, Gloria Christian and Gail Cella; sisters-in-law Ann Marie Brown and Genevieve Push; father-in-law and stepmother-in-law Harry and Marian Marquart; mother-in-law Agnes Marquart and aunt Dora Horton.
