Audrey Paxton, 85, of Creston, died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2023, at Creston Specialty Care in Creston. A Celebration of Life Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2023, at Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Fr. Patrick Amedaka will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Creston. Open visitation will be from 1- 2 p.m. Wednesday, prior to the service.

Audrey Dean Paxton was born on Dec. 31, 1937, to Charles Everett and Florence (Funke) Paxton in Greenfield. He attended country school from kindergarten to high school. He graduated from Greenfield High School in 1956. After high school Audrey attended business college in Omaha for a year and majored in accounting. He then returned to Greenfield to work at Fontanelle Implement as their bookkeeper and jack of all trades.

On Sept. 1, 1958, Audrey was united in marriage to Geraldine Ann Myers in Creston. They settled in Greenfield and began their family.

Audrey worked for the implement dealer until it closed. Then he worked for Kirlin Auto for a time and then became the Deputy Assessor of Adair County.

Audrey and Ann and their five children then settled in Creston the spring of 1979 where Audrey became the Union County Assessor. Audrey worked at this position from June 1979 until his retirement on Dec. 31, 1999.

Audrey was a member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Creston and was active in the Kiwanis including being a past president.

Audrey is survived by his three daughters: Dee (Ross) Fuglsang of Sioux City, Donna Boden (Bob Decker) of Murray and Debbie (Tony) Cavender of Ames; two sons: Mike (Annette) Paxton of Creston and Terry (Annette) Paxton of Olathe; 11 grandchildren: Kelly Fuglsang, Holly (Kyle) Meachum, Andrew (Hilary) Boden, Daniel Boden, Hunter Decker, Fisher (Tatum) Decker, Paige (Jordan) Youngerman, Jacob (Mayci) Paxton, Matthew (Bre) Paxton, Tia (Jacob) Christensen and Kori Cavender; seven great-grandchildren: Wyatt Boden, Blaire Reeves, Rowan Meachum, Amber Paxton, Brantley Decker, Reagan Decker and Parker Decker; two brothers, Ben (June) Paxton and Jerry (Velda) Paxton, all of Greenfield.

Audrey is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ann; his parents, Charles and Florence Paxton and his mother in-law and father in-law, Isabelle and Robert Myers.
