Clarine Abramowitz, 81, of Johnston, formerly of Creston, went to be with her Savior on Thursday, Dec. 29, 2022, at Brio of Johnston. A Celebration of Life Service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2023, at Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Open visitation with family to receive friends will be noon-1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4, prior to service. Pastor Dan Fields will officiate. A private family burial will be held in Graceland Cemetery.

Clarine Fae Abramowitz was born Oct. 10, 1941, the daughter of Clarence Alvie Henry and Winona Caryl (Siems) in St. Mary’s, Ohio. The family moved to Creston in 1943 where Clarine graduated from in 1959. She attended Bethel College in St. Paul, Minnesota, where she met her future husband, Al Abramowitz. She later received her bachelor’s degree in education from Drake University. She taught school in Newton and Freeport, Illinois, until 1995 upon retirement.
On Jan. 27, 1962, Clarine was united in marriage to Alfred Edward Abramowitz at the First Baptist Church in Creston. There were blessed with a son, Timothy, and a daughter, Michele.
Clarine enjoyed cooking, hosting her friends and family and visiting her grandchildren. Clarine was a member of the First Baptist Church in Creston and the First Baptist Church in Freeport, where she was active in the Ladies’ Bible Study and choir.
Clarine is survived by her husband, Al Abramowitz of Johnston; her children, Timothy Wayne (Deb) Abramowitz of Johnston and Michele Jane (Joe) Pettinger of Seattle, Washington; grandchildren: Levi (Kate) Abramowitz of Waukee, Jannae Abramowitz of Farmington, Connecticut, Evan (Emma) Abramowitz of Ames, Grant Abramowitz of Nevada and Anika Pettinger of Seattle and great-grandchildren, Lilyann and Theo Abramowitz of Waukee.
Clarine is preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Wayne Alan Henry and a sister, Cheryl Jane Henry.
