Rex N. Daub

Creston

Rex Nelson Daub, 83, of Creston, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 9, at the Kavanaugh Hospice House in Des Moines. He fought a health battle for many years and his family was so proud of him.

Rex was born Oct. 17, 1939, to Richard and Corda Daub on Simpson Hill west of Afton. He graduated in 1957 from Shannon City where he was fondly known as “Dead Eye” Daub for his talent on the basketball court.

Out of high school, Rex went to work at Brown Shoe Fit. He married the love of his life, Lois Maxine Carlson, July 3, 1960. He then went to work at Creston Feed and Grain, grinding feed at local farms. He later became assistant manager and moved on to become manager/co-owner. Rex retired in 2014 after 53 years of working with farmers young and old, 4-Hers eager to succeed and growing families.

For many years, Rex could be found with his daughters, Kelly and Kristi, at county, local and state fairs showing 4-H cattle and building friendships that have lasted a lifetime.

After the showing cattle years ended, Rex and Lois could be found at local antique auctions throughout the area. They found a wonderful group of friends who loved collecting old stuff too. They opened Windy Acres Antiques at their farm in 2007. Rex became known as the guru of furniture restoring- people brought him junk and picked up treasures. Rex and Kristi spent years restoring furniture and gathering junk and goodies to sell at different vintage markets, Junk Jubilee Jingles was his favorite.

Hunter Bower, Rex’s grandson, was born in 1996. He soon became the apple of his eye, catching frogs, fishing, riding four wheelers, shooting guns and building birdhouses. Anything he needed or wanted, grandpa took care of it!

Rex and Lois recently moved off the family farm where they had lived for the past 50 years. This was a hard decision, but one that brought a simpler, calmer life.

Rex will be greatly missed by Lois, Kelly, Kristi and Hunter.

Condolences may be sent to Lois Daub, 1729 Lakeview Dr. Creston, IA, 50801.
