Robert “Bob” Moreland, 90, of Afton, passed away Thursday, Aug. 4, 2022, at Creston Specialty Care. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 9 at Pearson Family Funeral Service & Cremation Center. Rev. Jim Morris will officiate. Visitation will be open to the public 1 - 5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 8. Family will receive friends Tuesday from 9:30 -10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Bob will be laid to rest in Maple Hill Cemetery in Cromwell.

Robert William Moreland was born in Union County, west of Creston July 20, 1932. Robert was the second of three sons born to Gayl and Ruth (Baker) Moreland. As a young boy, the family lived on the farm west of Creston and later moved to Ozark, Missouri, where Robert attended elementary school. Robert graduated from Creston High School with the class of 1950. Following graduation, Bob enlisted in the United States Navy, serving four years during the Korean Conflict. Following his honorable discharge from the Navy, Bob married L. Maxine Souther on Dec. 17, 1954. Bob and Maxine remained in California several years, residing in Paso Robles, California. The couple would be blessed with two sons: Jeffrey and Timothy.
In 1964, the family returned to Iowa and resided on a farm near Afton. Bob had a love for farming and raised cattle and grew corn and soybeans. He also worked for Leonard Pettit for several years, butchering and processing beef and pork.
Bob is survived by his wife of 67 years, Maxine Moreland of Creston; his two sons: Jeffrey Moreland of Kansas and Timothy (Bongsoon) Moreland of Afton; five grandchildren: Chanda Moreland, Evan Moreland, Kara Mange, Jordan Moreland and Jared Moreland; five great-grandchildren: William Roberts, Bryana Moreland, Nicolette Mange, Maddalena Mange and Anthony Mange, Jr.; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Bob was preceded in death by two brothers: Harold and Donald Moreland; his mother, Ruth Moreland (when Bob was 12 years old); his father, Gayl; step-mother, Lu Moreland and his in-laws, Jim and Elsie Souther.
