Jim “Ferp” Harris, 69, of Creston, died June 18, 2022, at his home. Celebration of Life Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, June 24 at Powers Funeral Home, 601 New York Avenue, Creston. Pastor Phil Price will officiate. The family requests casual attire. Services will be livestreamed. Burial will be in Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel at a later date. Open visitation will be 2-7 p.m. Thursday, with family receiving friends from 5-7 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Military honor rites will be conducted by the Creston VFW.

James Robert Harris, was born May 9, 1953, son of Robert David and Anna Lea (Murphy) Harris in Savannah, Georgia. He was educated in Missouri schools. Jim then served in the United States Marine Corps from 1970 to 1974. Early on, Jim worked with P & W Concrete in the Creston area.

On May 19, 1984, Jim was united in marriage to Vicki Rae Shepler in Creston. They settled in Creston and Jim continued in the concrete business. Together they had a daughter Kaylee Harris. Jim and Vicki later divorced in January 1998.

Jim met Sherry Lynn (Brown) Harris in 2005. They blended their families and settled on a farm in Creston. Together they enjoyed hosting gatherings for all their family and friends.

Jim worked for SIRWA Water Treatment plant working in numerous positions before retiring in 2010. He loved fishing, hunting and sports, especially when his grandchildren were playing. When someone was leaving, he would always say “It’s never goodbye, it’s see ya later.”

Jim is survived by his spouse Sherry Harris of Creston; daughter, Kaylee Harris (Ryan Heatherington) of Creston, mother-in-law Carole Brown of Fontanelle; stepchildren, Sarah (James) Young of Creston, Laura (Josh) Newhouse of Storm Lake, Adam Harris of Des Moines and Lisa (Jerod) VanGenderen of Princeton, Missouri; his brother, Tom (Julie) Harris of Dover, Deleware; three sisters: Phyllis (Paul) Miller of Polo, Missouri, Marge Martin of Sebring, Florida, and Theresa (John) Carter of Sebring, Florida; four brothers in-law: Mike Welch of St. Joseph, Missouri, Bret (Deb) Brown of Anita, Greg (Sandy) Brown of Pasco Washington and Doug (Carly) Brown of Jefferson; 10 grandchildren: Oliver and baby Heatherington, Brielle and Colton Young, Hadley, Parker and Baylor Newhouse, Jude Harris, and Ethan and Raelynn VanGenderen and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family.

Jim was preceded in death by his grandparents, his parents, a sister Sue Welch, brother in-law, Bob Martin, three nephews: Pat Miller, Brian Martin and Ty Brown, cousins: Jerry Sportsman, Kathy Sportsman and Debbie Sportsman and his beloved dog Ozzie.
