Dennis Shawler, 74, of Creston, died Saturday, June 11, 2022, at Greater Regional Health in Creston. A Celebration of Life Memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 18, at Powers Funeral Home in Creston, 601 New York Avenue. Services will be live streamed. Pastor Mary O’Riley and Rev. Adam Westphal will officiate. Burial will be in Morgan Cemetery with full military honors provided by Theodore J. Martens V.F.W. Post 1797. Open memorial visitation with family to receive friends will be from 12 – 1 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home in Creston.

Dennis Lynn Shawler, son of Donald Milton and Thelma Lucille (Nelson) Shawler, was born Sept. 1, 1947, in Creston, Iowa. He graduated from Creston Community High School in 1965. Dennis served his country as a part of the U.S. Air Force.
On Sept. 5, 1970, Dennis was united in marriage to Suzanne Mary Drapcho in Carroll, Iowa. They settled in Omaha where he worked as a laborer in a foundry and later for a hydraulic repair company. In 1973, he moved to Creston and opened Denny’s Hydraulics and Welding Supplies that he operated until 2020. In Dennis’s spare time, he enjoyed traveling, hunting, and fishing.
Survivors include his wife Suzanne Shawler of Creston; son Eric Shawler of Creston; daughter Wendy (Jason) Hayes of Creston; five grandchildren: Morgan Shawler (Ethan Leighton), Gavin Shawler, Briley Hayes, Brennan Hayes and Blake Hayes; two sisters, Patricia (Dennis) Iiams of Ankeny, Iowa, and Janice Johnson of Ankeny, Iowa and sister-in-law Joyce Shawler of Creston.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Martin Shawler.
